PGY3 Advanced Ultrasound 

Description

Welcome to the PGY-3 Ultrasound Rotation!

 

The goal of this rotation is to keep groups small, maximize time scanning and to facilitate proctored, focused blocks with faculty.

 

We are hoping to make each session as compact and educational as possible.

 

Point-of-Care Course Topics

1) Basic transthoracic echo review and advanced echo techniques

2) Lung

3) DVT

4) Biliary

5) Ocular

6) MSK – joint arthrocentesis and tendon pathology

7) Ultrasound Guided Nerve Blocks

8) Pelvic

9) Trans Esophageal Echo

10) Pediatric scanning

11) Peripheral IV placement

 

Course Objectives

1) Ability to utilize ultrasound to work up patients with undifferentiated hypotension

2) Ability to utilize ultrasound to work up patients with undifferentiated dyspnea

3) Proficiency in applications necessary for objectives 1 and 2

4) Proficiency in MSK applications

5) Proficiency in ultrasound guided procedures and needle control

6) Exposure to critical care ultrasound which includes scanning in the MICU and exposure to trans-esophageal echo 

 

Schedule

Begins: Monday at 8:00

Ends: Friday by 12:00

 

Requirements

1) 5 advanced cardiac echo studies 

2) 5 lung scans

3) 5 Ocular scans

4) 5 Biliary scans 

5) 5 DVT US studies 

6) Perform 3 USGPIV

 

Assignments

1) You are expected to attend the University Point-of-Care Ultrasound meeting and present 5 different types of studies for review.

2) You are expected to create a “micro-teaching” during the week that will be presented on Friday

3) You are expected to find a journal article of interest to be discussed on Friday

 

Critical Care

1) Please attend the TEE hands-on simulator session.

2) Review applications of point-of-care ultrasound for the workup of undifferentiated hypotension and dyspnea
